Dear Republican Friends:
I am asking you to join me and citizens across the nation in denouncing the appointment of Stephen Bannon as Chief Strategist by our President-Elect, Donald Trump.
Perhaps you are aware that Bannon is a proud and influential white supremacist who actively promotes his “alt-right” agenda on the radio, in the press, and on social media. His impending presence in the White House is dangerous to our democracy and detrimental to the party because it emboldens hate groups of all stripes and sends a frighteningly clear message about the vulnerability of those against whom he directs his hate—many of whom are citizens and immigrants living in our Kent County communities.
I know that all of you are committed to West Michigan values and to the values of our Constitution, values utterly at odds with those Bannon has espoused for years.
As a voter in Kent County, I am asking the Kent County Republican Party to publicly oppose the appointment of Stephen Bannon to any role in the Trump administration and to call for Bannon’s immediate dismissal.
You bear the name of President Gerald R Ford, so I ask that you uphold the values he did. I voted for Jerry Ford because I admired him. I hope you will honor his memory and take action.
Sincerely,
Diana Wallis
