We, the undersigned, urge the Kent County Board of Commissioners to reject any and all efforts to designate Kent County as a sanctuary county for illegal immigrants. As citizens and legal residents of this community, we firmly believe in upholding the rule of law, ensuring the safety and security of our neighborhoods, and protecting the resources meant for Kent County’s hardworking families.

President Donald J. Trump has made it clear that America will no longer tolerate lawlessness when it comes to illegal immigration. His administration is working to repatriate those who have entered our country unlawfully, ensuring that our immigration system is respected and that the rights and safety of American citizens are prioritized.

Declaring Kent County a sanctuary county would:

  • Violate Federal Immigration Laws: Local governments must cooperate with federal law enforcement to remove individuals who have entered our nation illegally. Sanctuary policies create a dangerous precedent of defying federal law.
  • Jeopardize Public Safety: Sanctuary policies protect criminals who have violated our borders and, in many cases, committed additional crimes. Our law enforcement officers should be empowered to do their jobs, not be forced to ignore federal detainer requests.
  • Increase Financial Burdens on Taxpayers: Illegal immigration strains public services, including law enforcement, schools, and social programs, costing hardworking Kent County residents millions in taxpayer dollars.
  • Undermine the Will of the People: Kent County voters have repeatedly elected Republican leadership to uphold conservative values, including law and order. We expect our commissioners to stand firm against left-wing radical demands and prioritize the needs of legal residents over illegal migrants.
  • Sanctuary Policies Dishonor Legal Immigrants: Millions of immigrants follow the law, work hard, and earn their place in this great nation. Sanctuary policies undermine their sacrifices by placing illegal immigrants above those who respect our laws and contribute the right way. We must stand with lawful immigrants who enrich America, not reward those who break our laws.

We call on the Kent County Board of Commissioners to:

  1. Publicly reject any effort to declare Kent County a sanctuary county.
  2. Affirm their commitment to upholding the rule of law and cooperating with federal immigration enforcement.
  3. Prioritize Kent County citizens by ensuring our resources are directed toward law-abiding residents, not individuals who have broken the law by entering the country illegally.
