I am a Clinical Pharmacist, working in a busy West Michigan ER, but I live in Kent County. I am extremely dismayed by the negative comments Michigan GOP is throwing at our Governor and her Covid response team’s efforts. She’s working with world, and national Medical Science and Public health experts..What’s the Republican’s alternative response? What say you? About a week ago, we had 72 Covid+ patients come through ER in 24 hours with 12 admitted, now it’s much worse. ALL of us know that we cannot go to total lockdown, and we do not have to..but what we’re doing now is NOT WORKING by any metric you wish to look at! We must support small businesses and education of our kids for health and safety reasons, but need to throttle back and be more cautious moving forward Cases and hospitalizations are spiking, hospitals will soon be overwhelmed. Some of our staff as well as first responders are ill and also overwhelmed and struggling to provide for their families. I challenge any one of you to visit and ER or an ICU in your constituent communities, if you have the guts to do so. The Republican response of: Recall or impeach the governor is laughable, and reprehensible at this time.. Now, more than ever, we ALL need to work together if we are to reduce morbidity and mortality from this illness and preserve our economy. Previous generations survived the depression, other pandemics and wars by pulling together, not creating more angst and divisions within the electorate..Wake up and do the right thing! ALL your constituents, including their families are watching..If you simply make this crisis political bloodsport, pandering to the fringes of the party, shame on all of you. The US Constitution guarantees rights, but some of those rights come with heavy responsibilities. It’s important to note that the Constitution does not guarantee anyone the right to ignore basic evidence based precautions, contract and then spread a potentially fatal disease to fellow citizens. You all ought to be in concert with the Governor’s office advocating for masking up, social distancing and frequencies hand washing. What’s so hard about that? Vaccines that will save lives will be here in a few months (vs years), yet all the republican’s can do is attack the Governor’s office and rail at any restrictions that might save lives or mitigate severity of illness. How about improving infrastructure to rural communities to facilitate virtual learning (which is better than no learning)? What’s your plan for distribution and administration when vaccines are finally available? What about financial support and loan forgiveness to laid off workers and their families who have lost their health care benefits? Seem’s you have plenty of critical issues to spend time on. At some point, the electorate will be able to weigh in as to whether we keep our current Governor or not, same for all of you. If it were me, I’d quit throwing stones and get to work, bipartisan work to help your constituents through this crisis.. However, I have learned to lower my expectations when it comes to politicians in general….Go ahead…prove me wrong….
