Kent County GOP Stands Against Sanctuary County Policies, Releases Petition Signatures Ahead of Key Meeting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grand Rapids, MI – As liberal activists ramp up efforts to pressure the Kent County Board of Commissioners to embrace sanctuary policies, the Kent County GOP is releasing nearly 700 petition signatures from residents who firmly oppose such policies and stand for law and order, community safety, and fiscal responsibility.

Activists plan to flood the Thursday, February 13, meeting to push their radical agenda during public comment, even though there is no item on the agenda to make Kent County a sanctuary county. In response, the Kent County GOP is encouraging its members and conservatives everywhere to attend and have their voices heard, as well.

“The people in Kent County are not interested in providing a haven for those who break our laws; they want their hard-earned dollars to support people who are here legally, contributing to the productivity and cultural richness of our communities,” said Lynn Afendoulis, chair of the Kent County GOP. “Sanctuary policies take resources from the people who most need our help – including many immigrants who have worked hard to follow the laws – and instead assist lawbreakers. Such policies jeopardize the safety of our communities, and they burden taxpayers who already are stretched to their financial limits.”

“We stand with the commissioners who reject reckless policies, and we encourage people who agree to show up tomorrow to voice their opinions. We also need to be heard.“
